MIN. 2/13/6/2010 MATTERS ARISING FROM THE PREVIOUS MINUTES

THE PROPOSED TRIP

The proposed trip to the Rift Valley had not been approved because some to the expenses indicated in the proposal could not be catered for by TAS, such expenses included the teachers’  accommodation and meals.  The school was also advised to organize for the transport because the KWS had experienced problems in organizing for the transport as they had promised.  The members agreed to write the proposal

Once more and present it for approval excluding all the expenses which cannot be met by the TAS.

COMMUNICATION SIGNAL

Some tangible efforts had been done to install a communication signal in Usueni and the surrounding areas.  The area MP had promised that the signal will be installed in the near future.  Surveying of the ideal location had already been done.

EMAIL ADDRESS

The Princial reported to the other members that the school had an email address as request by Gill Marshal Andrews.  The email address is to be sent to her by Helen Ndeti.

MIN.  3/13/6/2010:  TAS SPONSORED TEACHERS.

The school Principal reported to the other members that one of the three teachers had already left the school after being recruited by the TSC.  The other two teacher were serving the school very well.  She also reported that the teachers employed by the TAS had greatly reduced the problem of inadequate staffing.  She said, this will go a long way in improving the performance of the school.  The principal

reported that the was aggressively looking for a graduate mathematics and Business studies teacher to replace the one who had already left.  The member felt that the replacement should be done within the shortest time possible.

MIN.  4/13/6/2010:  K.C.S.E  RESULTS ANALYSIS 2009

The members observed that the school’s mean score had improved from the dismal performance of 2.73 in 2008 ot 3.296 in the year 2009.  the school had recorded an improvement margin of about 0.566 in the same year.  This was attributed to the tremendous efforts put by the teachers and the assistance accorded by TAS particularly the buying of the revision books.  The members discussed in length the need and the mechanisms to be put in place to improve the mean score to at least 5.00 in 2 years time

The members suggested the following measures as the way forward in improving the school performance

  • Motivating the students to work hard by counseling them and guiding them appropriately
  • Taking a sample of the students for bench marking to familiarize them with what happens in schools which excelled in K.C.S.E Exams.
  • Motivating the teachers.
  • Accessing more revision materials to the students.
  • Ensuring the syllabuses are covered in time and good revision done.

MIN 5/13/6/2010:  PROGRSS ON SOLAR INSTALLATION

The principal reported to the other members that wiring had already been done and the necessary solar

equipment properly installed.  She also reported that the solar system had already been commissioned and properly serving the school.  It was also reported that the money for buying the generator had not been spend.  The members felt that since the school could get electricity in the near future from the ongoing rural electrification project in the area.  It   was not wise to buy the generator.  The members requested the local TAS Secretary, Madam Ndeti to counsult Gill Marshal on what could be done on that issue.

MIN 6/13/6/2010:  LABORATORY EQUIPMENT

Madam Ndeti reported to the other members that the lab equipment consignment had already reached Kenya, but she reported that there were problems in clearing  the duty.  She reported that all efforts has been done to waive the duty so that the consignment could be released.  The C.D.F  Committee members for Mwingi Northern Constituency present promised to contribute some money towards the releasing of the consignment.  They also advised the school on how to apply for the same.  The school was also to organize for the transportation after the release of the consignment.
