Minutes:
Madogo Secondary School Trust Meeting
January 13, 2011
Madogo Secondary School
In attendance:
Hussein Waju (HW)
Steven Kameti (SK)
Gill Marshall Andrews (GMA)
Lainie Reisman (LR)
Rosania Gwiyo (RG)
A.L. Otiende (AO)
Halima J. Kofa (HK)
- Prayers were led by SK
- HW was elected as interim chairman of the meeting given the absence of PN – he sent greetings from the area MP thanking TAS for its support. HW also queried the discussions with Arsenal. GMA updated the group and suggested that a letter should be prepared on Madogo letterhead explaining the school would like to host, security arrangements and how the coaches would be used.
- Action: LR to draft letter to send to Otiende
- Madogo has submitted a multiple of proposals to various sources. LR and GMA requested a list of proposals and what organizations they have been sent to.
- Action: AO to prepare list.
- Waldegrave Update – the two selected teachers have their passports and requested leave from the MoE. Visas are pending. Also discussed was the need to draft letters of agreements with the teachers stating their commitment to stay at Madogo.
- Action: AO to contract British Council about training.
- Action: PN to draft letters and co-sign along with DEO.
- Science Lab – A long discussion was held on the status of the science lab which is still unfinished. It was determined that the school asked for additional work (the tables/benches), which Kimanzi began, although this was never formally included in the contract. Antony Gross said that the verbal agreement with Kimanzi was that he would do the additional work but asked for a payment up front which was given. It was determined that Kimanzi at this point is not responsive and a solution is needed in order to finish the works which includes sinks, plastering, floor, finishings, windows, gas connections, and fuel cupboard amongst others.
- Action: GMA to cancel contract with Kimanzi
- Action: LR to obtain building specifications from Gross and pass to Madogo through Steven.
- Action: Madogo to obtain quotations from local contractors to finish the work.
- Pending Proposals
Remedial Teaching – First priority proposal: GMA indicated an issue with paying teachers extra funds for work during the teaching day (ie. 4:15 – 5:15).
- Action: Remedial teaching proposal to be revised (timetable) before submission to TAS.
Fencing – Second priority proposal. This is being submitted to TAS
- Action: LR to submit proposal
Electricity – Third priority proposal. This is on hold pending responses from other potential donors or co-donors.
Furniture – Fourth priority proposal. Put on hold given other priorities. If taken in the future would need to include specifics on types of furnitures, why the numbers are needed, etc.
Library / Computer Room – GMA mentioned she might have a donor for this structure. She also mentioned innovations in small bandas that other schools are using.
- Action: Madogo to write a proposal for a library/computer room.
Games Proposal – Put on hold given other priorities.
- Other Issues
Antony Gross has resigned as a trustee and signatory of Madogo Trust. He is reducing his involvement in all TAS activities. A replacement, preferably a professional in the Garissa area, is being sought.
· Action: Trustees to begin identifying interested candidates to replace Gross.
GMA requested that the school consider installing a noticeboard to keep all parents/teachers/students informed about basic school information.
The meeting was closed by a prayer.
