Minutes for the Meeting held on the 13th January 2012

Meeting opened with a word of prayer from Miss Muthengi P.M.
1. Matters arising from the previous minutes
The HT was asked to update us with all the school updates.
· Results: He did inform us about the KCPE results. Out of the 23 pupils who took the exam 13 were girls. The highest marks were scored by a boy which was 272. 249 marks were the highest marks that were achieved by a girl. In comparison there were 4 point below though from the previous year. Number 1 – 3 were boys and the girl came number 4.
· Enrolment: the school enrolment had gone up from 296 to 306 this year. This figure included the nursery/preschool.
· Teachers: The number of the teachers in the school was six. The TAS teachers provided were four which brings the total number of teachers in the school to 10. It was also mentioned by the HT that the TAS teachers were picked well as it resulted into better results.
· Parents: They do not pay anything towards the school expenses. However they do help with the digging, clearing the bush, supplying the water sand and bricks.
· Learning Standards: It has been decided that any pupil who scores less than 250 marks will be taken back a class to repeat the year. The number of students that were in Standard 8 now is 14. Four were taken back to year seven.
· Water Tanks: water tanks have been repaired and also a NGO in the area is providing water tanks.
There completed projects from the last meeting were also mentioned by the school staff which were:
· Fencing: It was redone and the job well completed the animals now could not come in. The spacing was well done. The plants have now also been planted around the fence.
· Classrooms: The classroom were completed and in use. The students were happy about the new classes.
· Teachers: They have been paid their monies
· Benchmarking: Learning was done in a different method which was more positive and the students enjoyed it thoroughly. The teachers noticed the change in pupils as to how they started working voluntary. Seeing this change the school has decided to start this earlier and engage more classes with this exercise. It was decided that class 8 and 7 would go in April and 5 and 6 can then go later. This will be the two proposals that will be handed in.
· Cost of the exam material: There were concerns shared that the exam material was too expensive especially if I cannot be used again. Stephen then mentioned as how another school had put a proposal in already and would be easier if Kalumu bought just the paper and ink.
· Solar Installation: This project should be completed in two and half weeks.
· Saturday Tuitions: Gill did ask what the students do on Saturday classes, as she didn’t understand why the syllabus could not be completed over school hours. She suggested doing extra circular activities on Saturday like reading club, discussion groups in the Banda, Watching a DVD. Everyone was happy with that and the teachers said they would research more on that and come up with different ideas.
· Tree Planting: Trees have been planting and the holes have been dug.
· Parents Motivational days: It was a very successful day with prizes for the Best achievers.
New proposals to be written
· Construction of Bandas
· Library
· DVD Player, TV and Computer Subject to Solar being completed
· Storage of the books
· Girls Boarding due to the rate of dropout. More research needed & Quotes.
· Trips – Stephen to find out more about the KWS Exposure
· Saturday Classes- More research and Ideas needed as mentioned before.
