USUENI GIRLS' SECONDARY SCHOOL TRUST FOR AFRICAN SCHOOL (TAS) MEETING HELD AT THE SCHOOL BANDA ON 7TH MATCH 2013.

MIN 1/1/2013: -PRELIMINARIES
The meeting was opened with a word of prayer said by Mr. Muthui.
The Chair Person called the meeting to order and welcomed all members.
Being newly posted, the Principal introduced herself to the other members and the School trust.
MIN 2 / 1/2013: - CONFIRMATION OF THE PREVIOUS MINUTES
The secretary read through the minutes of the previous meeting. Mr. Muthui confirmed the minutes and was seconded by Mr. Mulela.
MIN 3 / 1/ 2013:- MATTERS ARISING FROM THE PREVIOUS MINUTES
Members wanted to know whether the TAS projects funded in the year 2012 were complete.
The chairlady reported that the projects were complete and have contributed immensely to the school improved performance including the water project, the bandas, the Camara Computers and lastly the fencing project which was due to be completed. Members were also interested to know what made the partnership between the School and the identified School in UK not to materialise. Members were informed that the partnership was unexpectedly terminated due to change of administration in the identified School in UK.
MIN 4 /1/2013: - SCHOOL PROGRESS
Since Usueni Girls' Secondary School was incorporated as one of the School supported by TAS in late 2009, tremendous academic progress has been realised.
The School enrolment has almost doubled from 120 students in early 2008 to almost 200 students in 2013.
The academic performance has also been gradually improving from the dismal mean score of 2.73 (D) – 2008 to 4.67 (C-) -2012.
The students' individual grade have also improved tremendously. This is indicated in the last year's performance where by the top student managed a mean grade of a B as compared to the 2008's top student who had scored a mean grade of D+. In the last year's K.C.S.E eight students managed a mean grade of atleast C+ which is the minimum qualification to join a public university in Kenya. As per our comparison between the current and the previous candidate class, we are expressing our fears that a drop is expected since the ability of the current class leaves a lot to be desired. However we are optimistic that we will try to do our best. We have no doubt to report that we are very confident with the current form 3 class and we are certain that it will post the best performance ever compared to the previous years. The form 2 and the form 1 classes are equally good.
MIN 5/1/2013: - PARTNERSHIP
Several advances have been made as far as our partnership with the new school is concerned . The administration and staff are committed to ensure we succeed . We have not been communicating frequently but we promise to improve. Efforts are being made to ensure that the first group of teachers visits the School by the end of this year. It has been communicated we are expecting teachers to pay our school a visit in February next year. However because of political transition our term dates have been disrupted but we trust to end term 3 around 23/11/2013.
MIN 6/1 /2013: -COMPUTERS
The kind gesture that was shown to us by the TAS through the provision of the Camara Computers has enabled us have computer literate students.
The Kenya Ministry of Education has added some more computers to facilitate IT learning in our School as supported by TAS. From all these generous contributions it has been easy for us to store our information / data and has also helped in computation of important documents and teachers use them in teaching and preparing lesson notes.
MIN 7/ 1/2013:- COMPLETED PROJECTS
Since the incorporation of our school by TAS the following projects have been funded to completion and they are fully operational.
- Students revision textbooks – 2009
- TAS sponsored teachers - 2010 – up to date.
- Solar installation - 2010
- Construction of Bandas - 2012
- Staff members Computer training - 2012
- Water project - 2012
- School Compound fencing - 2012 /2013
- Benchmarking to be done in June- 2013
MIN 9 / 1/ 2013: - NEW PROPOSALS
The Usueni Girls' Secondary School Trust in liason with members of Staff have identified the following projects. For funding by TAS in the following order of priority.
- 70 sets of lockers and chairs.
- One Commercial banda.
- 2 units of staff houses (each with two self contained houses)
MIN / 10/1/2013:- FUTURE SCHOOL PLANS
We are committed to achieving greater heights in academic performance. We are laying a target of a mean score that will go beyond 5.0 ( c) come the year 2014.
Our unwavering hope to grow into a 2 streamed school in the nearly future has already had the pace set by the current form 1 class with a record f enrolment of more than 60 students.
In terms of physical facilities the School Trust has identified the following projects.
- Administration block
- More class rooms – parents are organizing to construct 2 classroom for the extra F1 class
- Dormitories.
In addition, the School Trust is looking forward to partner with TAS in funding more Students exposure trips in the future.
