SCHOOLS
MINUTES OF MEETING OF
TRUSTEES ON 15 JULY 2013 at Locke Lord,
201 Bishopsgate
Present: Guy Cowley, Norma Empringham, Heather Flint, Ben Howland, Steve James, Will Jones,
Tom Marshall-Andrews, Gill Marshall-Andrews, Luke Morris, Johnnie Morris, Ben Taylor

1. Minutes of meeting on 22 April 2013 were
agreed.
2. Update on schools
The recent newsletter distributed earlier gave an update
on the major developments in schools.
3.School Partnerships
Kimphe
Langano Primary School (Ethiopia) / Heathfield Junior School
The
selection of teachers from Kimphe Langano has become problematic.It is hoped the matter can be resolved soon
so plans can be made to welcome 2 teachers over to Heathfield early next year.
Mivukoni
/ Hampton Academy
Peter
Edmead, Head of Science at Hampton Academy who visited Mivukoni over Easter at
his own expense is retiring soon.He has
asked for someone to take over the partnership but to date no-one has stepped
up.He plans to continue supporting
Mivukoni on a personal basis and we will meet up to discuss this in the Autumn.
Usueni / Norbury Manor
The partnership between Usueni School and Norbury Manor
Business and Entreprise College for Girls in Croydon is developing. TAS has funded a business banda and sewing
equipment for an entrepreneurial partnership activity. We have also funded some new staff quarters
which can be used by visiting teachers.
The first visits to the UK are likely to be in December. Norbury Manor is trying to raise funds from
various sources for their staff to visit Kenya.
4.Finance, accounts and Gift Aid
Guy
presented the accounts to date.Ben will
put the Gift Aid claim in shortly – estimated to be between £15k - £20k.After that the 2012 accounts will be done.
We
have around £23k in the bank which is sufficient to cover the current proposed
projects.
It
was agreed that we should try out World First for the transfer of this tranche
of funds.Guy and Ben T will progress
this.
5.Trustees’ special interests
It
was agreed that Guy would take on a special role in relation to IT in
schools.Gill will introduce him to the
secondary schools who all have computer hubs and a designated IT teacher or
technician.
6. Proposals for funding – it was agreed
that we send out around £19,700 as per the circulated list.
7. Website
It was agreed that the website should contain a
standardised way of referring to schools
eg Green Park Nursery School.
8. Stephen Kameti
There was general agreement that Stephen has done an
excellent job supporting the local school trusts and we would like to find a
way of continuing with the current arrangement with his employer the Kenya
Wildlife Service. This will be discussed
at a later date.
9. Next meeting was agreed for Monday 18
November 2013 at Ben Taylor’s office Ernst and Young 1 More London Place.
