Present:

Minutes:

MEETING AT EBURRU PRIMARY SCHOOL ON 12 JANUARY 2015

Present:

Karanja  Headteacher

Gordon Strevens  - Trustee

Judy Williams  - Secretary

Gill Marshall-Andrews – TAS UK

The strike

There no teachers or students in the school because of the strike.  The school has been closed for 7 weeks and was looking uncared for.

The proposed new classrooms

There had been only one tender for the 3 classrooms, hopefully to be funded by TAS and locally raised funds.  The contractor has since withdrawn his tender.   Gordon agreed to try and find two or three new tenders.

Exam results 2014 (2013 in brackets)

Entries  70 (74)  30 boys, 39 girls

Mean score  213 (216)

More than 250  Total 30 (27)  15 boys, 15 girls

Highest score  333 boy, 297 girl

Teachers

The school will have 4 TSC teachers plus the headteacher when the school resumes after the strike.  With a roll of 656 students this is an impossible situation.  There was a promise of two more last August but nothing has so far materialised.

Gill agreed to phone Madame Tanui on 0722384104.  She is the TSC HR person for Naivasha County and is responsible for allocating teachers to schools in the area.

Library

The library looked in good condition with books and TV in good order.

The librarian’s contract ended in December and will not be renewed.  The Headteacher wants to recruit someone else and will put in a proposal to TAS for funding.

Caretaker

The headteacher will put in a proposal for funding for a caretaker to keep the place clean, repair windows etc.

Next steps

Judy will follow up the funding from Deb Snell’s fundraising event - ?around 160,000 Kes.

Gordon will look into contractors for the classrooms.

Gill will contact TSC and MP re teachers.

POST MEETING NOTE

Gill spoke to Madame Tanui who confirmed that 2 extra teachers would be provided for the coming term and another 3 in July.  She would welcome any further pressure on the MP or the Ministry.
