School update

The school did well in the 2014 KCPE exams with a mean score of 238 compared to last year’s 213.5.  Among those completing the exam were 4 girls which is a real achievement.

Enrollment in Standard 1 was ongoing but looks promising with around 50% being girls.

Library

The building is being prepared for the government’s laptop programme.  The school qualifies for the first phase of this as it has power and a good building.  Two teachers have been nominated for training and the government has given 60,000 Kes for a large steel cabinet with slots for 50 laptops.

The TV and DVD are in use but lack DVDs.  Also there are very few story and reference books.  There was a slight concern about the whereabouts of the books donated by the Nation.  The need to keep an accurate record of books donated and borrowed was emphasised.  Also the need to cover the books to protect them.

The shelving is very tall and not really child friendly.  Not sure what can be done but the adjustable shelving at Mivukoni library is a much better option.

Girls Dormitory

The screen has been completed and the bunk beds are in place.  It is expected that there will be around 20 girls enrolling as boarders.  The new female teacher will sleep in the Matron’s room in the dormitory.  The washrooms have also been completed.

The screen contractor has not yet received her money despite Chase Bank having been instructed to transfer 95,000 Kes.

Laptop for headteacher

The headteacher was presented with a laptop for his use for as long as he is at the school.
