MIVUKONI SECONDARY SCHOOL TRUST
NOTE OF A VISIT on 22 JANUARY 2015 BY GILL MARSHALL-ANDREWS
AND STEPHEN KAMETI
Present: Lilian
Syanda, Mr Muthya, Luke Arimi, Boniface, SK and GMA
School update
There was a big parents meeting on 26 November at which the
parents agreed to contribute funds for furnishing the bandas, finishing the new
science lab and books for the library.
Newsletter
Hard copies of the recently produced newsletter was
presented. They cant go on line because
the internet connection is still too weak.
The newsletter was for the third quarter of 2014 and it is
expected that there will be one per quarter.
It will be put on line asap.
ICT and library
Boniface is planning to run IT classes for the community to
start in 2 weeks time. This will bring
in an income for the school.
GMA suggested that the school could also offer training and
support for primary schools starting with the government’s standard 1laptop
programme.
The MP will be asked to pressure Safaricom for proper
internet connectivity. The present
situation is very damaging to the progress of the school. There is supposed to
be a fibre optic cable running up the road to Tseikuru which brings it close to
the school. This would transform the
connectivity.
The Camara comuters are working fairly well but a
maintenance visit would be helpful.
Stephen to contact them and arrange this.
Kindles
The school is thinking of getting a credit card so it can
download books onto the kindles.
TAS Funding
It was agreed that Harriet will transfer funds for the IT
technician who has just been employed.
Funding of 180,000 Kes was sent to the MSST in Nov 2013. This is for 0.5 position for 2 years. TAS to pay 7000 Kes per month and the school
to pay 7000 Kes per month. Evidence of
the school contribution at the end of the 2 year period will be required.
TAS will forward 810,000 Kes for the renovation of the old
science lab. The tender was 917,000Kes
and the school contribution was 107,000 Kes.
TAS will also forward 190,000 Kes for an educational
trip.
COMPLETION REPORTS
ON BOTH THESE PROJECTS WILL BE REQUIRED.
Enrolment
Around 80 students are expected to enrol in Form 1 but this
will depend on the 2014 results due out in March. Form 2 has 56 students. The target for KCSE in 2014 was 4.2 (last
year’s results were 3.7)
Peter Edmead
The school will reach out to Peter and hope he is willing to
resume his interest and support for the school.
Meeting ended at 1.30pm
