School update:
The exam results for 2014 were a spectacular improvement on
2013. The mean score was 251 up from 202
last year. However the number of
students taking the exam was much reduced (6 boys and 9 girls) . There may be an emerging pattern of boys
dropping out which would be a matter of concern.
In this year’s Standard 8 there are 44 students. Standard 7 is 60 and Standard 1 is 66.
The school looked in good condition. The trees are thriving and the vegetable
garden is surviving.
The borehole is working well so the school has running
water.
New classrooms /
library
The contractor, Kandu, is working very hard on these and
promises to be finished in 3 weeks. The
plan is to designate one of the classrooms as a library / computer room. They
will create a resource centre for the school and the community by putting the
government’s laptops in with the library
books. The school will be in the first
phase of the laptop programme. 2
teachers have been identified for training and a large steel cabinet for 50
laptops is being constructed.
Polytechnic project
The school has a vision to develop a polytechnic centre on
its compound. There is plenty of land
for this and a real need to give students who fail to get to secondary school a
skill for life.
New Proposals
Fire extinguishers and an IT technician / librarian. These will be prepared and sent to Stephen
and Lut.
