MEETING HELD BETWEEN ASAKO AND LST REPRESENTATVES

24 MAY 2016

SCHOOL UPDATES

a)      School population 384, i.e. Boys 182 and 102 girls

b)      Staff houses

Teachers are paying their maintenance contributions promptly and direct to the bank by playbill No 52522.

House repairs to be completed by mid August 2016. Kameti Stephen will take photos of the completed repairs as evidence.

c)      Girls” hostels are in use by a total of 23 i.e.17 from primary and 6 from secondary section.  This has motivated more girls to board leading an increase from 94 to 102 of them.

d)     Kora mixed secondary school has a long term plan of being converted to purely girls only and have boys joining another school. It has 24 students i.e. 17 boys and 7 girls. It has 6 teachers ie 3 males and 3 females.

e)      School programmes towards improving the school

1.      Increase contact hours with students i.e. introduce early morning and evening preps.

2.      Motivation of teachers with whose KCSE subject scores of A to get Kshs 1000.

3.      Teacher to lead open discussions between teachers and pupils every Tuesday and engage pupils in asking questions.

4.      Ban use of vernacular and make use of English language from Monday to Friday.

Way ford on the same

  1. Invite motivational speakers to encourage girls to study
  2. Encourage co-curricular activities (Sports and games)
  3. Improve girls’ retention rates through by rewarding every girl who completes class 8.
  4. Bench marking: Encourage completion by doing common exams with a sister school i.e. Reiko primary school.

SCHOOL PROJECTS

School projects in two categories i.e. big and small. Big that cost more than 150,000 and small with a cost of less than the same figure(150.000).

Include the following:

  1. Education tour
  2. Water work ie gets water from KWS compound –Big
  3. Printer/photo copier machine –Small
  4. Girls’ hostel with lighting ie solar-B
  5. TV/DVD/Recorder-S
  6. Administration block-B
  7. Library and equipments-B
  8. Painting of school classrooms-S
  9. Tree planting ( with availiability of water)-S
  10. Sports equipment-S
  11. Desks, chairs and tables-S
  12. Benchmarking-S
  13. Examination materials-S
  14. Mentorship programme ie motivation speaker, education days and specialized/thematic talks.

ACTION PLAN/WAYFORWARD

  1. Do a proposal for strategic projects i.e. urgent and most important. These are 1. Trip 2.TV/DVD/ 3.printer 4.solar girls’ hostels.
  2. Repair of staff houses to be ready by mid August 2016.
  3. Convene a TAS/LST meeting at the school before 26/06/2016 and have a parents meeting on the same day.
  4. To invite KWS education team to visit the school and do conservation education to the school community. A/P- Kameti to contact them.
  5. Kameti to liaise with KWS concerning water project and see what they can do.
  6. The head teacher to at least give updates on school progress after a fortnight.
