Minutes:
NOTES OF A MEETING OF THE MITAMYSI SECONDARY SCHOOL TRUST ON
28 AUGUST 2017
Present: Joseph
Nzunghu Headteacher, Acothy Ndoo Community Rep, Simon Musyimi BOM
Rep.
In attendance:
Stephen Kameti TAS/KWS co-ordinator,
Gill Marshall-Andrews TAS
secretary UK.
School Update:
The school has purchased some land adjacent to the school
compound for 100,000Kes. The land will
improve the school’s capacity to grow and in particular will be used as a site
for the boys dormitory that is expected to be built soon by CDF.
There are now 3 TSC teachers including on new woman for
Maths and Physics. Parents pay for the
remaining 4 teachers.
There are now 120 students.
The new intake in January is expected to be higher than last year.
Meetings with ASDF (African Sand Dam Foundation) – arranged by
Lissa Campbell – have taken place and the parents have collected sand and
stones in anticipation of a project to build a large water tank and guttering. It would be excellent if this could happen
before the rains in November. Gill and Stephen
to follow up with Lissa.
The science lab is still not complete. Its difficult to deliver the science
curriculum with it in its current state.
The funding for this by CDF is in place but has been delayed due to the
election.
Currently water is delivered by bowzer and costs 100/- per
litre ie 80p. This is very expensive.
Funding proposals:
TAS is (almost) in a position to send funds to the newly set
up company in Nairobi (Karui Limited) for agreed projects. This means that 820,000 /- will be sent for
classroom refurbishment, 185,000/- for an educational trip and 102,000/- for
solar for the girls dormitory.
Further projects:
Fence, revision materials, and
50% of the transport costs of the stones for the water tank – if it happens.
A library/computer room would be a great asset – maybe in
2018/9.
