Minutes:
Notes of a meeting at
Mitamysi Secondary School on 27 Feb 2020.
Present: Ms Scola
Omangani HT, Joel Kavala BOM Chair, Gideon Mkitheka, Teacher Rep,
Acothy Ngoo Community Rep,
Stephen Kameti TAS/KWS, Gill Marshall-Andrews TAS UK.
School update:
135 students on roll now – and growing daily.
38 Form 1 in new intake – they are allowed 40.
The standard of the intake is lower than before because the
government it striving for 100% transition from primary school, so the exam
results are likely to be fairly static for a while.
Buildings
The science lab has been ‘finished’ by CDF – badly. The benches are of poor quality. GMA will write to the MP Paul Nzengu.
The boys dormitory is finished to a good standard and boys
have started to move in. Around 20 are
there so far and more applying daily.
The staff units are nearly complete. The principal is delighted with her house and
the building for another 4-8 is going to make a huge difference. Teachers will double up in the 4 rooms where
appropriate.
The shade banda is half finished. Waiting for roofing materials which are in
scarce supply due to the heavy rain.
The display boards which was part of the PRD application may
be a saving as the school has already budgeted for some.
The second phase of projects – with additional funds from
PRD 2019 – will be started when first phase is completed. Fence, staff banda, sports field, trainers
and equipment, and educational trip to be started, hopefully in May.
Income generation
The HT is very keen on income generation and plans to start
on poultry and soap making.
Post meeting note:
GMA has written to the MP about finishing the science lab.
