Minutes:

We visited LPS last week on Thursday.

Herewith another update on the ongoing projects at Loldia Primary School. See a couple of pictures provided.

  • The laptops (computers) have all been refurbished and installed at the school. Two have been upgraded to Windows 10, one could not have its operating system changed and is still on Windows XP. The total costs including a new printer, amounted to some Ksh 32,500. One of the laptops needed a new battery but all are now up and running. We are still awaiting answer about possibly getting a free connection to the internet for the school.
  • Materials for the alternative 2 inch pipeline were delivered to the school and Shalimar staff have installed the new 2 inch line. The old 1 inch line was retrieved and materials can be used for future projects. As soon as the line was connected to the old water lines on the school compound, a great number of leaks occurred. Meanwhile we have provided some 20 taps, clamps and many connections and a number of gate valves to ensure the school’s water system can cope with the high pressure water now continuously delivered. We spent Ksh 20,590 on these additional materials. The school now has ample supply of high pressure water and all the toilets are being connected. Also, the pressure is such that we will be able to irrigate (manually) the playing fields, when the dry season is upon us. And the nursery sponsored by Rhino Ark, that failed due to the total lack of water, can now be revived.
  • The playing field look very good at the moment and is complete with football and netball posts. The Kasarani community as a whole is using this new field. We witnessed a very happy atmosphere.
  • The ‘long drop and showers for the teachers’ is coming along nicely. The building is almost completed and ready for use. See the pictures (old and new). We are till trying to get the funds the head teacher was supposed to get from parents’ promises amounting to 40,000 KSH.
  •
  •
  • Stanbic bank (where we have our bank account for Loldia Primary School Trust) has granted the LPS account the same status as for other school accounts. That means there will be no banking service and/or transfer fees for just having the account. The two teachers being sponsored through this bank account have already opened an account with Stanbic bank as requested and have received their February pay without the bank charging additional fees. Grace, the lady teacher being sponsored by your is called Pauline Nyambura Sophia and she is very grateful for your generosity.
  • As for the costs involved, the following prevails:
    • By tendering for the long drop, we managed to get it done for Ksh 200,000, a saving of Ksh 15,000 compared to the original quotation.
    • By selecting a different material for the pipeline as originally quoted, we managed to save Ksh 38,000 on the original quotation. However we had to spend an additional Ksh 20,590 to cope with the leaks and replace the missing taps.
    • Getting the computers up and running cost an additional Ksh 12,500 above the original quotation.

The funds provided through TAS amounted to Ksh 276,000. The total spent for these projects was Ksh 357,000. The difference was paid for from the surplus we have saved in our ‘kitty’ from previous projects.
