Minutes from Trustees Meeting
01/09/2021

Present:

Minutes:

MINUTES OF MEETING OF TRUSTEES ON 1 SEPTEMBER 2021 AT E&Y, 1 MORE LONDON.

Present:   Sangdeep Bakhshi, Will Jones, Luke Morris,  Ben Taylor,  Gill Marshall-Andrews

Present via zoom:  Norma Empringham, Lissa Campbell,   Guy Cowley,  Tom Marshall-Andrews,  , Johnnie Morris,  Douglas Pinto.

In attendance:  Stephen Kameti via zoom

1.Minutes of the meeting on 12 May  were agreed.

2.  School and country update

Stephen Kameti and GMA presented his report which gave an update on Kenya and the schools.  The report was much appreciated and it was agreed to circulate it as a ‘newsletter with a difference’.

3. Property Race Day

The Property Race Day was cancelled for the second year running.  An alternative fund raising event is planned for later in September. Whatever funding we may receive from that will be put towards the Mitamysi library – to add to the £9k already ring fenced for that project.

4.  Finance and Bank

Sangdeep presented his report on current finances showing a balance of £30k of which around £9k is ring fenced for Mitamysi, £10k for Stephen Kameti.  £11k is unrestricted. He and Guy were congratulated on  progress towards the  handover of the Treasurership.  What remains is to get Sangdeep access to the bank account which, now Douglas has returned, should be able to be effected soon.

The first step is to get agreement to take 6 signatories off the account and add one.  The result of this will be 5 signatories on the account  -Guy, Sangdeep, Douglas, Luke and Gill.

Guy will be around till Christmas to advise and help with this.

4.  Proposals for funding

On Stephen Kameti’s advice funding was agreed for several small projects totalling around £2k which are motivating and morale boosting.

The main priority for building is the classrooms at Kaseluni but we do not have sufficient unrestricted funds for the complete project.  It was agreed that we would ask Lut Laenen, the Kaseluni Trust secretary, what she thought about sending around £7k (60%) to start the building off in expectation of further income to complete the project.

5.  The future of TAS

GMA presented a short note about the future of TAS in the light of her wish to step down in 2024 when she reaches 80.  Several scenarios were discussed and it was agreed that there is plenty of time for trustees to consider the options at a later date.

6.   Next meeting

The next meeting was arranged for Monday 29 November hopefully in person at Fladgate – thank you Luke.

And many thanks to Sangdeep for excellent facilities today including a great room with brilliant coms.
