Minutes:

MEETING AT EL RAR PRIMARY SCHOOL

16 FEBRUARY 2022

Present:

Benjamin Mwanzia  Headteacher

Macdonald Charo  Deputy HT

Stephen Kameti  TAS

Gill Marshall-Andrews  TAS UK

School update:

The school was deserted when we arrived as agreed at lunchtime. Two children went to the village to fetch the head and deputy.

This was a disappointing visit.  The classrooms looked messy, no trees had been planted.

Only 77 children had reported back after Christmas and of those only 18 were girls.

The roll in Class 1 is 10 boys and 2 girls.

Neither the chief nor the HT had done anything to find the absent children and get them back to school.   The HT does not appear to be committed to the school or its pupils .

A list of  past TAS projects was gone through:

70 desks, 6 tables

Toilets

Kitchen and store

Story books

Cupboardd

Educational trip,

Education Day,

Fencce.

None of this investment appeared to have improved the mood in the school or the educational outcomes for the children.  GMA therefore said that there would be no more funding until things improved in terms of enrolment –particularly of girls -and results.
