MEETING WITH JARAJARA PRIMARY SCHOOL HEADTEACHER IN MWINGI

(it was not possible to get to the school in the time available so the headteacher travelled to Mwingi to meet us)

School update:

There are 462 children on roll – 262 boys and 200 girls.  An energetic Enrolment Drive (Out of School initiative) has been conducted by the Chief and the headteacher.

There are now more girl candidates for the KCSE exam next month than boys _25 girls and 21 boys.

This is almost double the number in 2021.

There are still only 3 TSC teachers including the HT.  The 6 young people from the Youth Service who have helped out in the classroom have temporarily been withdrawn due to a land dispute with the community.  This leave 462 with only 3 teachers!!   Last year GMA visited the Ministry of Education in Garissa to discuss the dire situation but nothing appears to have happened.  GMA will write again.

Given the shortage of teacher it is extraordinary that 9 girls and 2 boys managed to score over 300  in the exams last year.

The priority project is 4 more latrines.
