TRUSTS FOR AFRICAN SCHOOLS

MINUTES OF MEETING OF TRUSTEES ON 13 SEPTEMBER 2022 – by ZOOM from Canada .Thank you Sangdeep!

Apologies:  Ben Taylor,  Will Jones,  Luke Morris,

Invited but no connection - Stephen Kameti

1.Minutes of the meeting on 29 March 2022 were agreed.

2. Matters arising  -  Tony Fitzjohn’s death was noted with sadness.  His work in Kora National Park will be continued by his wife Lucy and son Mukka.

3.  School and country update

GMA presented Stephen’s  reports  which gave an update on Kenya and the schools.

Key points  concerned:

Mitamysi Secondary School  started back at the end of lockdown with a full Form 1.  It is hoped that a new Form 1 will be enrolled in January and the school will build itself back to full numbers within 2 years.

Asako Primary  The new borehole for Kora Secondary School will now be in the Primary School compound and discussions are taking place to agree a contract between the schools.  The Principal is excited about the supply of water and wants to concentrate his efforts on developing the agriculture curriculum.  We have said we will consider matched funding to progress this goal.

Kora Secondary school is still growing fast and they are excited about the borehole even though it will now not be on their compound.

4.  Finance and Bank

Sangdeep is still not a signatory to the account .  He plans to go back to the bank – again – and see what else has to be done.   In the meantime GMA has managed to send funds to Eburru Primary School Trust for the refurbishment of their courtyard.  They wanted this urgently to see if it could be done before the rains but the rains have come early so the project will now be delayed.  Funds from the Property Race Day are expected to be known in November.  It will be necessary to ensure that Mitamysi is a going concern before any further funding is applied to their project.  SK is in discussion with the Ministry about the new Principal who is still drinking.

5.  Proposals for funding

It was agreed to send funds for a dormitory at Kaseluni when we have an updated proposal and quote – if the funds we have in place allow.

6.   Next meeting

The next meeting will be on 21 November 2022,   We hope the next meeting will be face to face and maybe dinner afterwards at the Conduit Club!
