Minutes:

NOTES OF A VISIT TO BOKA PRIMARY SCHOOL – 7 FEBRUARY 2023

Present:

Peter Makau  HY,  Lucy Fitzjohn  GAWPT,  Stephen Kameti  GAWPT/TAS,  Gill Marshall-Andrews  TAS UK.

School update:

The school looked in reasonable condition except for the fence and the banda that TAS funded several years ago where the roof has been burnt down by some small children.  Accidentally it is hoped!

The school BOM has agreed to replace the roof shortly.

Children have reported to enrol,  Number so far are:

2021 – 581

2022 – 649

2023  600 (expected) not including PP1  42 and PP2  130

Teachers:  11 TSC  including 2 secondary teaches to teach Class 7 Junior Secondary class. (49).

1 BOM teacher for RE.

Results:

2021  248   35 candidates

2022  254  29 candidates

The school was an examination centre for 3 local primary schools including El Rar.

Generally the girls are doing better than the boys.  Also some boys are leaving before the exam

New Abagala Secondary School, is awaiting registration.  The HT has been responsible for getting it going.  Land has been allocated and 4 classrooms built.  Also latrines.

Projects

The banda roof will be repaired by the school/BOM.

3 solar panels for the staff room and trip for the staff will be considered by TAS/GAWPT.

The littering of the town is horrific.  The HT will consider how the school can begin to improve the situation. Maybe using a trip as a reward.
