NOTES OF A VISIT TO KORA SECONDARY SCHOOL ON

MONDAY 6 FEBRUARY 2023

Present:

Rosanian xxx  Principal

Sol...  Chair BOM

Mr Njeru  DH

Lucy Fitzjohn  GAWPT

Gill Marshall-Andrews  TAS

GAWPT / TAS

Lucy was introduced and GMA explained that TAS is being wound down but that GAWPT would be taking an interest in the school from now on.

School update:

The school looked in excellent condition.  Trees had been planted,  A new science lab and classroom had been built by CDF.

The new library is completed but not furnished yet.  The school will design the shelving, tables and chairs.

The  boys who come from afar are being accommodated in one of the classrooms.  The girls have access to part of the girls dormitory in the primary school.  However the lack of dormitories is preventing the school from taking in more students.  This is a priority.

The borehole is working well.  They turn on the pump, fill a large tank and then turn it off.  The management of water seems to be in good hands.   A small farm is being planned.   However the new buildings do not have gutters so if the when it rains no water will be collected.  The school agreed to discuss this.  They assured us that the primary school would have access to the new borehole when the tank and piping are in place.

Two girls recited a poem of thanks for TAS.  They itemised the projects TAS has contributed to the school :  Library, borehole. Kitchen and tank, laptops and printer, solar panels, fence, trip to Mombasa, tables and lockers.
