Minutes from Trustees Meeting

Minutes:

NOTES OF A MEETING WITH THE BOARD OF MANAGEMENT OF

EBURRU PRIMARY SCHOOL ON 25 JANUARY 2023

Present:  Mr Kariuki  HT, Zacharia Karundu BOM Chair,  all 10 other Board members and Gill Marshall-Andrews TAS.

Apologies:  Nicole Church  TAS

School update:

One day before the school opened GMA and Nicole Church visited the school and were distressed to find some of the classrooms in a very bad state – dirty with broken desks and windows.

Also of concern was the state of the cement floor in the 3 classrooms re-furbished by TAS 3 years ago.  The floor had crumbled which was clearly a sign that the contractor had failed to use the appropriate proportion of cement in the screed.  He apologised and has promised to re-do the floor during the Easter holiday.

The project to concrete the courtyard was completed with the exception of one corner where the water would not drain properly.  The contractor agreed to remedy this .

The school opened yesterday after the long break.  HT expects around 540 children to be on roll by the end of the week.  This is approximately the same as the  last 2 years.

Exam results in 2022 were slightly improved on 2021 with 8 children getting more than 300 marks.  One girl achieved 380 and received an Equity scholarship.

The BOM were deep in discussions about the new curriculum which entails Class 7 being designated Junior Secondary and requiring to be taught differently .  This will entail additional secondary teachers being appointed to the school.  But nothing is very clear at present.

The school now has 16 TSC teachers which is a great improvement on previous allocations of staff.

The Board requested TAS considers a sports project, an educational trip and a water tank.  Proposals for these projects will be prepared and forwarded by the HT.
