VISIT TO KASELUNI PRIMARY SCHOOL ON 8 FEBRUARY 2023

Introductions
GMA
introduced Lucy and explained that TAS will be winding down over the next year
but that GAWPT will be taking an interest in the schools as part
of their outreach programme.
School
update:
124
children are enrolled excluding 17 Class 7 children who will be the first
cohort of the new Junior Secondary School.
27 children
in ECD, PP1 10 and PP2 17.
26 children
are candidates in Class 8 for KCPE. They
expect more will enrol in the coming weeks.
5 TSC
teachers plus HT. I more secondary
teacher expected for Class 7.
0 teachers
from BOM.
Buildings
and compound
The school
looked very good. Trees and flowers are
growing, fence in good order, new
dormitory and bunk beds completed but not yet occupied. Gutters not all connected to tanks – they
will do this!!

results
MS 2022
157 with 21 candidates

168 with 21 candidates
Highest
score 227.
These are
very disappointing results. HT said low
score is due to some candidates being removed from school during the drought. This brings the average score down, but does
not explain the low score for the best candidate. Another contributory factor is the lack of
government food for the school. Local
MPs are pushing for this to be restored. SK will also visit the Education Office to
push for this.
The school
acknowledged the poor results and have set a target of 210 for 2023.
Projects
for funding
GMA
indicated that major investment will not happen until the results begin to
improve. However, 2 solar panels for the
new dormitory may be considered by TAS and GAWPT.
