Minutes from Trustees Meeting
01/02/2023

Present:

Minutes:

LOLDIA PRIMARY SCHOOL TRUST (LPST)

MEETING ON 1 FEBRUARY 2023

Present:

Ben Arentz  LPST, Wanja Arentz LPST , Joseph Njeru HT, Gill Marshall-Andrews  TAS

The contractor for the dining hall  (Mbugwa) joined the meeting to discuss progress with the building.

School update:

There are 2000 children on roll at the start of the January term.

An additional 220 will join next week.  These are the class 7 children who have now become the first cohort of the new Junior Secondary School.  They wear a different uniform and will be taught a different curriculum  - the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).

So the primary school will consist of classes 1-6.

The Junior Secondary will consist of classes 7-9

The High School will consist of classes 10-12.

The transition to the new arrangements is confusing for schools as the Junior Secondary  will operate a different teacher / pupil ratio, will need secondary school teachers, science labs and libraries.  The transition is expected to be completed by 2025 when the JS part of the school will be split off and become a separate institution.

Recent  KCPE scores are

2020 244

 2021  - 258

2022 – 252.

The candidate numbers have remained approximately the same – around 220 with almost even numbers of girls and boys.  The boys scored slightly higher than the girls.

The number of TSC teachers has risen dramatically from 23 in 2020 to 38 in 2023.  In addition, 7 teachers are being paid by the PTA and by donors.  The school expects 3 more TSC teachers shortly.

One new classroom is being built by the flower company Bilishaka, as part of their Fair Trade donation to the community.

The school field has degenerated into dust as has the main courtyard.  Everyone is praying for rain.

The dining hall

The building is almost complete - it just needs the floor to be re-done with tiles and the walls to be painted.  The target completion date is end February.  It is to be named Amazing Grace in honour of the main donor Grace Gray.  The other donors are the current President Ruto who made an early donation  before he took office of 1m KES, the MP Martha Wangari and the CDF  who donated 1m KES.  The total cost was around 5.2m KES.

Governors Camp have donated 50 tables and benches which will seat 400 students.  30 more are promised.

TAS

Gill M-A explained that TAS was winding down over the next 12 months and Wanja explained that she would be withdrawing from the LPST as from now.
