Minutes:

TRUSTS FOR AFRICAN SCHOOLS

MINUTES OF  OF THE 68TH MEETING OF TRUSTEES ON  11 OCTOBER  2024 AT  E Y .

Present:

Norma Empringham, (Chair),  Ben Taylor, Sangdeep Bakhshi,  Lissa Campbell, Tom Marshall-Andrews, Will Jones,  Luke Morris , Johnnie Morris, Douglas Pinto,  Gill Marshall-Andrews,

Apologies:  None

In attendance:  Stephen Kameti

1..  Minutes of the meeting on 11 April 2024 were agreed.

2.  School update

Stephen Kameti gave an update on recent and current projects.

The new commercial banda at Mitamysi is nearly completed and will be equipped soon.  The idea of making  Afripads has been discussed and rejected by the girls who prefer disposable pads.  However these are much more expensive so the discussion will go on as parents are in favour.

3.  Treasurer update

Funds are being wound down and it is expected that, soon, only the funds received via Just Giving for Laura’s sponsored ‘Walk with Maasai’  will be left.  These are currently around £7300.

As the current balance at Barclays is £13,914  that means there is £6555 of funds for TAS projects.  It was agreed that this sum – approx 1.1m KES should be transferred to Karui and that the Karui sub accounts should be closed.  This would mean a total sum in the main Karui account of around

2.1m +1.1m = KES 3.2m

Current commitments are  2m for Kaseluni boys dorm, 400,000 for Mitamysi mentorship, 120,000 for Jrajara trip, 250 for Boka trip.  If there is a residue of funds in the Karui account after all commitments are met it was agreed these would be transferred to the George Adamson Wildlife Preservation Trust account in Nairobi.

The expectation is that the funds from Just Giving for the ‘Walk with Maasai ‘ will be transferred by 30 November  and that the Barclays account can be closed then.

Douglas will then handle the closure of the Karui bank account and entities.

4..  Proposals for funding

We still await a proposal from Mitamysi for the mentorship programme funded by PRD (400,000KES).

5.  Photo album

10 copies of the TAS photo album were distributed.   These have been paid for by GMA so anyone wishing to hang onto one please re-imburse her.  Thank you.

6.  Farewell party  -post meeting note!

The party  was a great success.  A huge thank you to Ben and Sangdeep for their generousity.  A fitting end to a great adventure steered by the most wonderful band of trustees!
