MINUTES OF ASAKO PRIMARY SCHOOL TRUST MEETING HELD ON 12-11-08 AT MADOGO SECONDARY SCHOOL.

1.      Mark Cheriyot chaired the meeting and opened the meeting by informing members that some of the members were not able to attend this meeting due to transport hitches from Asako and Nairobi.

2.      Teachers issues:

3.      The Head teacher confirmed that the school currently has five Government teachers but todate one of the teachers has been away since opening on sick leave, also at the school are one Trust primary teacher and 2 pre-school teachers.

4.      New teachers to be employed:

The A.E.O  Mr. Abass confirmed that three teachers have submitted their applications for employment, one male teacher and two female teachers. Members resolved that an interview panel consisting of the D.E.O, A.E.O, Head teacher and SMC chairperson to conduct an interview on Monday 17th November 2008 and forward the names of two successful applicant to Trust for consideration of employment. They are expected to start teaching on  5th January 2009 when the school opens.

The D.E.O, Alphan N. promised to retain one of the Trust teachers absorbed by the Government at the school to increase the number of teachers from current five to six teachers.

5. Training Needs:

                                 i.            The Head teacher informed members that the staff did not discuss the areas of interest to them for  training. However, he emphasized that there is need for the training. The Head teacher to prepare the training needs for teachers and the School Management Committee and any other school projects by 21st November 2008 to be emailed to Lissa  (TAS).

                              ii.            Inservice Training:

One of the Pre-School teachers Alkano G. Bukao was qualified for certificate course in Early Childhood Development (ECD) and will begin the course in April 2009 while Bare Idd needs a proficiency qualifying examination for a Diploma course in ECD to be taken in March 2009. He already have a certificate in ECD. The head teacher is going to email the fee structure for Alkano G. Bukao.

iii. Mr. Hussein Blono Duba is enrolled at Kampala International University and had presented his request to be funded. We are yet expecting response from the TAS.

6. Teachers’ House:

The house has been completed but not occupied. Official handing over agreed to be held on  21st January 2009.

7. Renovation of the classrooms:

The area M.P Dr. Nuh Nassir committed upto 1.2 million for renovation of the classroom through CDF. It was agreed that  officers from the Ministry of public works to assess the renovation works and prepare BQs to facilitate funding by the CDF.

8. Co-curricular:

 Mr. Cheriyot informed that funds for co-curricular activities are ready and asked which account is to be used. The Head teacher agreed on  Juma’s account.

9.Salaries for pre-school teachers and the care taker:

Cheriyot informed the meeting that November salaries for the pre-school teachers and the care taker has been released.

10. Misunderstanding between the local Trust members, Ismail Fodho, kulisa Shora and Juma Ali have been amicably settled by the A.E.O Mr. Abas Kunyo.

11. Teachers request for membership in TAS committee was found not necessary since the Head teacher can represent their interests.

Cheriyot informed that some members of TAS will visit the school on 8th December 2008.

The next meeting is scheduled for 21st January 2009 at Asako Primary School.
