Kalumu children 'adopt' trees
02/06/2012

Each student at Kalumu school has been given a tree seedling to plant and look after.  Children have dug holes for their tree, written their name beside it and watered it.  The result is extraordinary. There are growing trees everywhere!  Now the school has water and a functioning fence all round the compound which excludes all animals there is a transformation in progress and a real pride in the trees. One young girl is said to have been inconsolable when a visitor accidentally drove a car over her 'tree'.  She has since been given another. The compound will look very different in a few years time if the students manage to keep the trees alive which they are determined to do.
