New ways of working at Kalumu Primary School
11/07/2014
The new bandas at Kalumu, and other TAS supported primary schools in remote areas, have been hugely successful in bringing about a change in teaching methods. Traditionally, didactic teaching has been the norm and there has been little interaction between teacher and student. With a class of 50 this is not surprising. Now however, with the smaller, cooler spaces offered by the bandas and with a longer school day because of boarding facilities, there is the opportunity for more child centred learning to take place in smaller groups. Kalumu is changing fast and is determined to make itself a model school from which others in the area can learn. |
