Free Secondary School for all.
20/10/2017
The government of Kenya has said that all children, whatever their exam results at the end of primary school, will have the right to a free secondary school place from January 2018. What this means in practice is not clear as there are not sufficient secondary school classrooms or teachers to accommodate every child. But, the intention is clear - and laudable. The new government of Uhuru Kenyatta is placing education at the top of its agenda and has promised more resources but this will certainly take time to trickle down to the poorest schools. In the meantime, TAS will continue its efforts to support and improve schools in the Kora/Mwingi area so that children from these remote areas have a chance of success. |
