Post COVID school re-opening
15/11/2020

On 12 October 2020 Kenyan schools partially re-opened after a 7 month lockdown.  Exam classes were admitted - Class 8 in Primary Schools and Form 4 in Secondary Schools. In some schools, students were slow to return, particularly girls who had been absorbed back into their traditional roles in the home.  There was concern that some sort of encouragement was needed to entice them back.
TAS had invited schools to apply for items that would engage students in extra curricular activities that were fun and productive eg sports and gardening equipment, TVs and DVDs, COVID related items such as hand washing tanks and thermometers, and motivational speakers. These were purchased and have been greatly valued  by school staff and students alike.  Its too early to say if all the students  will return but headteachers are trying hard to engage parents and chiefs to ensure that education continues for these very disadvantaged young people.
