| El Rar Primary School gets its fence!

El Rar is one of the most remote of TAS supported schools. Its serves a community that does not value education and routinely keeps girls at home for early marriage.Two things have happened in recent months to challenge these norms. The first was the building of a fence that delineated the school grounds and stopped animals and people from wandering into the compound and the second was holding an Education Day that encouraged the community into the school with high profile guest speakers and food!These two TAS funded projects do seem to have made an impact on enrolment with 7/8 new girls now attending.Time will tell if they stay the course and move on to secondary school. But in the meantime, trees and vegetables are being planted when it rains. |
