Funds have been agreed and sent out for 90 desks (to take 3 students each) and 4 new teachers for Asako School.
The local trust has been working hard to get samples of desks and quotes. They have been hampered by very heavy rains that have made the road from Garissa impassable. But the work is now underway and the desks should be ready by the start of the new school year in January.
Two pre-primary teachers have been recruited from the local community and two new female primary teachers are all due to start in January. It is hoped that more girls will now feel able to attend school.
The next project is likely to be accommodation for teachers. Currently they stay with local families in very basic conditions and this is a serious disincentive for them to stay and work in Asako.
