4 New School Trusts in Kenya
17/06/2009

On 11 June 2009, four new local school trusts were inaugurated  at Mivukoni Secondary School, Usueni Secondary School for Girls, Ikathima Primary School and Kalumu Primary School.

These schools are all in the remote and arid area to the south west of Kora National Park.

Stephen Kameti the TAS / KWS liaison officer has facilitated the establishment of the new trusts and continues to work with the new trustees helping to set up bank accounts etc.

The schools are all extremely poor.  All have water and food shortages, and are lacking in many of the basic facilities and resources. Standards of teaching and learning are low and drop out rates are high, but all are determined to improve.

Each school will be identifying the priorities for funding in the next few months.  These are likely to include food for the children in school, books, sports equipment, additional teachers, refurbishment of classrooms.
