A new science laboratory is under way in Madogo Secondary School, Garissa. The difference with this one is that it is being built with soil blocks made locally.
The project hasnt been without its problems notably the quality of the soil on the school site. Despite having been tested and found suitable, the blocks didnt work with this soil and the contractor is now having to bring in soil from further afield. This is causing some delay but the blocks are now being stockpiled and the building is back on schedule. Once completed it will be possible to assess the cost effectiveness and sustainability of the process.
