The foundations of the new library at Mivukoni Secondary School are being dug and it's all systems go for this new venture. With funds generously donated specifically for this project the whole school community is working to create a wonderful new resource for the school.
The brick making machine is in place and some of the poorest parents have been trained in its use. So far they have made over 2000 ISSBs (Interlocking Stabilised Soil Blocks). They give their labour in lieu of school fees thus enabling their sons and daughters to continue in school.
The machine has been loaned from the Ministry of Housing and was brought on very rough roads from Mwingi over 150km away.
The library is expected to be finished by the start of the new term in September. Trustees are also exploring a new system of solar powered computers.
