Ikathima Primary School parents have begun digging holes for tree planting under their new Adopt a Tree programme.
The idea is that each family will plant and look after a tree in the school compound. At present water is scarce but it is hoped that a disused borehole nearby can be rejuvenated and that water can be piped to the school. This will transform life at Ikathima, enabling vegetables to be grown by the children to improve their diet.
The trees will also provide welcome shade in this extremely hot and arid area.
