Mivukoni Secondary School now has a beautiful new library which will soon be equipped with books and computers. The building is spacious, light and airy with plenty of room for students and a librarian / computer technician. The library will be used in conjunction with 8 recently constructed bandas where students gather for small group work and private study.
The building was constructed using ISSBs - Interlocking Stabilised Soil Blocks - made by local people with a machine loaned by the Ministry of Works. Much of the labour was provided by parents who have difficulty paying the boarding costs for their children. By earning money this way the parents can keep their children at school - a genuinely win - win situation.
